Our top Charleston area rental home booking tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. To book the most suitable rental within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing and booking the best Charleston area vacation home:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Charming Downtown 1 BR has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the host before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- To make certain no damages are linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Contact the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
