Booking the best rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the best vacation home in Charleston:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Charming Downtown 1 BR has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is best for your group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
