Strategies to get the very best rental experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Cozy Studio in the Center of Downtown Charleston! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
