Booking the best vacation rental experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. To find the best rental home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Folly Beach Condo with Water Views! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
