Strategies to get the best Charleston vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting and booking the bestvacation home:

  • First, have your family agree to the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Beautifully Furnished Townhouse on James Island, 3 minutes to Downtown. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your group.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
