Vacation rental booking tips:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer time is high season in Charleston. To book the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking the best Charleston area rental home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Beautifully Furnished Townhouse on James Island, 3 minutes to Downtown. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
