Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • To get the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning and choosing your prefectrental:

  • To start, have your group decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Tully Alley: Stunning home featured in NY Times! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is optimal for your group.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
