Tips for getting the best Charleston area rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Bright & Modern 2 Bedroom Monthly Rental has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
