Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • Summertime is high season in Charleston. Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:

  • Start by having your family select date ranges and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Downtown Charleston Charm: 2 Bed\/1 Bath has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area destination you simply love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
