Tricks and tips for getting the best vacation property experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, try changing your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose and book the bestvacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group select a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Downtown Charleston Charm: 2 Bed/1 Bath has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area destination you love, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

More considerations for your visit:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
