Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best rental home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Charleston area attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Finding the perfect vacation rental:

  • Start by having your group choose trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. THE INNS 6BR Downtown Home! Perfect for Groups! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
