Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing and booking your prefect Charleston area vacation home:

  • Start by selecting vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Downtown Charleston Beauty - Professional Design! has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you simply love, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
