Booking the best Charleston area rental home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Adorable bungalow close to downtown and Folly Beach! Park pass included! has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
Additional considerations:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the property manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
