Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To book the best vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to select the best vacation home:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If not, contact the property management company before you book your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you love, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
