Rental booking tips and tricks:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the largest rental within your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting and booking a perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Updated Brick Charmer under the Oaks has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If not, call the property manager before you book the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you are crazy about, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations for your visit:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Call the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
