Charleston rental home booking tips and tricks:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Charleston. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting the best rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Downtown Charleston - Best Location - 4 Bedroom! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
