Tips for getting the perfect Charleston rental home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- To find the best value, shift your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and choose the perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. SOUTHERN CHARM! DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON - Sleeps 10 has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. Otherwise, contact the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation family.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
Have a fantastic stay:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
