How to find the best Charleston rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by selecting your a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Newly Renovated, Charming Home, Walk to Hampton Park has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Charleston area beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Advice for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
