Getting the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Finding the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To get the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. ‘Tropical Blue’ – Historic Home 5 mins to King St. has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
