Our top Rental home booking tips:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Book your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. The Saint Philip House
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
