Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • To get the most suitable rental home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • To start, have your group commit to date ranges and a budget.
  • Only 2 Blocks to King! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great time? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
