Tips to get the best rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- To find the best value, change your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- To start, have your family choose date ranges and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Casa Vieja-B: Sunny and Sleek 1BR has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If not, email or call the property management company before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your family.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.

- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
