Tips for getting the perfect Charleston vacation home experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose the perfect vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Great Neighborhood Restaurants! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs applied to your invoice.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
