Tips for getting the perfect rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Lowcountry Cottage Suite 3 miles from oceanfront and 8 miles to downtown! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
Advice for a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. text the property manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
