Getting the best vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning, selecting, and booking your Charleston area rental:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. The Lodge Alley Inn, 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area destination you crave, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
