Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Charleston area rental experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Charleston. To get the best vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to select the perfect rental:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. The Iris, Signature Suite has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
