Our top Charleston rental home tips:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Book your Charleston area vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and choosing a perfectrental home:

  • Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. The Iris, Signature Suite has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

Tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
