How to book the best Charleston vacation rental experience:

When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:

  • Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to select the perfect rental in Charleston:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. The Charleston Bicycle Flat has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
