Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Make a plan and pick a perfectrental:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Charming home in West Ashley - 90% Remodeled - Near plantations and downtown has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
