Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Charleston area vacation home experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose the perfect vacation rental:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Sleeps 12 has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
