Tips and Tricks for getting the best Charleston vacation home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Charleston. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to pick the best rental home:
- First, have your group select trip dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Luxurious Waterfront Getaway, minutes from Folly Beach has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is right for your vacation.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
More tips for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
