Booking the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Stunning Beach House, Fully Renovated, Pool, Theater Room, Steps to Beach -3 46th Avenue has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Call the rental manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
