Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Charleston rental home experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To book the largest rental within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First, have your group commit to trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. The Aster: Where History Meets Home in Style has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

More considerations:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • During arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
