Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation home experience:

Getting the best value:

  • Summertime is high season in Charleston. To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • Select vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. The Aster: History and Style Meet has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, call the host before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area beach you are crazy about, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
