Money-saving Tips

  • Find the official tourism bureau where you want to travel. Many tourism bureaus supply guides with savings for lodging, dining and activities. Search for these magazines and coupon books, since this allows vacationers to experience the very same terrific activities at a quite often substantial discounted.
  • Are you willing to switch your trip dates? Off-peak rates are usually a fraction of maximum prices.
  • A number of property management companies and owners offer discounts for active duty and veteran members of the U.S. Armed forces, or returning vacation goers to the same rental. Make sure to ask property manager to see if your visiting group is eligible for a markdown.
  • Some rental homes are basically catered to specific guests, whether it's oceanside homes with weekly fishing pier passes, city-center homes with walkable access to restaurants or waterfront homes that feature private boat launching areas. You will definitely get the most value from a rental that most thoroughly satisfies your ideal trip setting, regardless if it costs a little more.
  • Think about obtaining trip insurance along with your lease contract. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base vacation rental price, offers guests reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed a result of medical related emergencies or hurricanes, in addition to ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforseen happens .

Find your Area and Confirm Dates

Quite often, the most challenging portion of scheduling your trip is figuring out where to search, and when. When the big decisions are hammered out, the rest is easier.

Bedrooms and Bed Sizes Matter

Establish who is traveling, and just how many/what kind of bedroom configuration you need to have. Remember that that many properties advertise maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in the home's living room. It is important to determine what is acceptable for the company. Specific descriptions of bedrooms and beds are commonly available on the internet. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book.

Decide on Your Budget

Does your selected vacation property suit your budget during that prime Summer week? Make certain to get cost-sharing commitments from company before reserving an expensive rental. Usually, one person in the group will be liable for making the full reservation and collecting each party's share.

Its All About Amenities

What amenities is the group searching for? Do you want a vacation property with outside lounge? Are you more enthusiastic about a natural landscape or nightlife? Will the rental have bicycles and beach toys available for use during your stay? Make a list of prioritized "needs and desires" from your group to help filter your search to the most suitable home.

Special Concerns

Grandparents will thank you for not renting a stairs-only condominium on the 3rd floor. Ensure that you remember and ask about wheelchair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs..

What About Furry Family Members?

Don't forget to include your companion! Although many vacation rentals permit pets, guidelines and costs vary per rental. Type of animal, size and dog breeds can be controlled. Read your agreement very carefully! Fees may apply when pets are included. Ask questions *prior to* you reserve!

Start your Search

A number of internet resources exist to match clients with property owners.. In addition to Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we suggest searching Google for "Charleston area local vacation rentals" for local vacation home management companies. Local agencies often have a unique selection of vacation homes daily and weekly.

Negotiate the Price

Re-read the description to ensure that the rental has everything required. If it is something is missing, the vacation rental management company may know of very similar properties that better fit your style and budget..

During your Stay

  • To make certain no damages are attributed to your visit, create a record of any trouble spots of the property. If you discover wear and tear, or if fixes are required call the home manager immediately. If there is a disagreement about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • You could need instructions for a gas fireplace, TV or hot tub. Contact your rental manager. They are there to help. A quick phone call eliminates many headaches.
  • Make sure to be a good next-door neighbor. Permanent residents frequently live within earshot. Remember the golden rule and treat others the same way you'd like to be treated by visitors next to your home.
  • Ask a local. Natives can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best chicken wings, have a great date night, or the best places for wildlife?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the vacation home locked up while you are away, exactly like you would at home.

Checking Out

  • Tidy up a bit. Even if you're having to pay a housekeeping fee, The property is required to be in good condition. Sinks stuffed with pots and pans, excessive beach sand on the flooring and sticky messes should be addressed before leaving.
  • As soon as everything is out, do a walk-through of the rental home to confirm no damage occurred in the course of your stay. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible (this isn't always the case).. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great time? Just about all property management companies and rental home sites make it easy for travellers to offer feedback. If your vacation rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will appreciate your compliments. Learn from your Experience

Tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

Find your best deal:

  • Summer months are high season in . Book your settings->area_title?> rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First, have your group agree to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts and types are regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your group.
  • If there's a certain settings->area_title?> attraction you crave, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Call the property manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute , having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable. , and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Expanding on our last point... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
