Our top Charleston rental booking tips and tricks:
Finding the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to select the perfect rental home in Charleston:
- First and foremost, have your family decide on dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Drayton Suite
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you long to visit, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- To make certain damages are not linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. message the rental manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
