Tips and Tricks to get the best Isle of Palms vacation home experience:

When to visit Isle of Palms & When to reserve a Isle of Palms rental home:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summer time is high season in Isle of Palms. To find the best value, try changing your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the best vacation rental:

  • Select a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Beachfront, Pool Access, Balcony w\/ Oceanview
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If not, contact the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
