Tips to get the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the rightvacation home:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Perfectly centered between Historic Downtown Charleston and Folly Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
