Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:

When to visit Charleston & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and pick the bestrental home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Pink House - Downtown Duplex - Sleeps 20 has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for a great stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
