Our top Charleston area rental home tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental in Charleston:
- First, have your family agree to trip dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Single Family Downtown House with Private Yard has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or might be applied to your agreement.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
