How to get the best vacation property experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To book the most suitable rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking your prefect Charleston area vacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Riverland Terrace Home + Carriage House! 3BR\/3BA has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If not, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
