Rental home tips:

When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Summertime is high season in Charleston. To book the largest rental home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the best vacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Relaxing Home Near Beach & Downtown has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
