Tips for getting the best Charleston vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting and booking your prefect Charleston area vacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Relaxing Home Near Beach & Downtown has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your trip.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Have a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
