How to find the best rental experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To get the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting the best rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group choose a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Waterfront Condo on Folly River at Folly Beach. Sleeps 8! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you long to visit, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make certain damages are not linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
