Our top Rental booking tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, shift your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to select the best vacation rental in the Charleston area area:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Comfy, Cozy, Captivating
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area destination you long to visit, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
