How to get the best Charleston vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the best vacation rental:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - Studio (1Q) has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before booking your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
