Strategies for getting the perfect Charleston vacation property experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. Booking in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and pick yourrental home:
- First, have your group agree to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Modern Townhome close to Folly Beach and dwntn Charleston! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If not, email the host before booking your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
