Our top Vacation rental home tips:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for local shops and restaurants.

Choosing and booking your prefect Charleston area rental home:

  • First and foremost, have your family agree to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Modern Renovated 2-Condo Combo Close to King has 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
