Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:

Finding the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Downtown Charleston 8 Bedroom has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
