Our top Charleston area rental home tips:
Get the best value:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Charming 3 bedroom Home - 2 miles to beach! Pet-Friendly! Sleeps 6 - 8.. has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- During arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
