Tips to get the best Charleston rental home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Charleston. Reserve your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing the best rental in the Charleston area area:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Charming 3 bedroom Home - 2 miles to beach! Pet-Friendly! Sleeps 6 - 8.. has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. text the host right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
