How to book the best Charleston area vacation property experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the best rental home in Charleston:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. New Listing! Historic Charleston, Walk Everywhere has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area beach you are crazy about, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. Call the host right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
