Getting the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- To get the most suitable rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Gorgeous, Bright & Spacious Apt - Walk to King! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- At Check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
