Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing and booking a perfectvacation home:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. 9B Mariners Walk, Wild Dunes has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation family.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you are crazy about, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
