How to get the best Charleston area rental home experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning and choosing your prefect Charleston area rental:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Cozy Charleston Cottage on the East Side has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you simply love, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or applied to your agreement.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
