Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning and choosing a perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Start by having your group commit to vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Cozy Charleston Cottage on the East Side has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the host before booking your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you simply love, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.

- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
