Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to reserve a Charleston area rental & When to go:

  • Summertime is high season in Charleston. Book your Charleston area rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First, have your group agree to a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Renovated 3 Bedroom Gem Near King Street! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property owner before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area destination you simply love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
