Strategies for getting the best Charleston rental experience:

Find your best deal:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. The Historic St. Philip House - One Block Off King Street has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area beach you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

During your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. message the rental manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
